School Elections and Referenda
Illinois school districts encounter the electoral process in three distinct settings: the election of board members, referenda seeking tax rate increases and referenda for the issuance of bonds and construction of projects. Whitt Law LLC has unequaled experience in each setting.
Board elections involve the appointment of a clerk to serve as the local election official, who has the responsibility of receiving nominating papers for persons seeking placement on the ballot. Whitt Law LLC has regularly provided local election officials with the guidance necessary to comply with the requirements of the Election Code while respecting the due process rights of potential candidates.
During the past 30 years, Whitt Law LLC has been privileged to represent some of the fastest growing school districts in Illinois and, indeed, the nation. During that period, we have submitted countless referenda to school district voters, including tax rate increases to provide funds for operations and construction propositions resulting in the issuance of over $1 billion in school building bonds and more than 59 new school buildings.
